In December 1598, seven years after the outbreak of the Imjin War, Admiral Yi Sun-sin (Kim Yoon-seok) learns of the sudden death of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the leader of the Japanese forces.
Upon discovering that the Japanese forces are hastily retreating from Joseon, Yi Sun-sin believes that ending the war by completely annihilating the Japanese is the only proper conclusion. He decides to organize a joint fleet with the Ming Dynasty to block the Japanese retreat and annihilate the enemies.
However, Jin Rin (Jung Jae-young), a corrupt official who has succumbed to Japanese bribery, seeks to aid the Japanese in their retreat. To make matters worse, even Shimazu (Baek Yoon-sik), the leader of the Japanese forces, is heading towards Noryang with the intention of helping the Japanese retreat.
